訓練時數的多寡，是小將進步的關鍵。先不論疫情，輿論經常批評康文署、足總未能妥善安排場地，令球員操練無從談起。但是，窒礙青年軍投入訓練的卻不只有場地。足總教練余小資在接受訪問時提及，地區青年軍的學員出席操練的情況很不理想——
「普遍一星期兩課，球員會選擇性來一課；若有三課則來兩課」。
固然，學生背負沉重的學業負擔，荒廢練波實在不難理解。然而，香港依舊不乏有心精進球技的孩子。有心練波的球員，缺的只是一套全新的學習模式，令他毋須受到環境、時間掣肘，維持個人技術的鍛鍊。
疫情摧毀的，還有不少教練的心血。
2009年香港贏得東亞運男足金牌後，政府、足總制訂「鳳凰計劃」，加強本地教練培訓。培訓教練悠關基層足球，基層足球鞏固得好，才能為代表隊提供新血、振興香港足球產業。
固然，教練的工作量並不穩定，福利、待遇亦不理想。然而，香港不乏願意與孩子並肩同行的教練。有心耕耘下去旳教練，需要打破固有的教學方法，維持日常的足球教學和指導工作。
